Refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle - rethink!

Teamwork: With Florian

Resources such as minerals are getting degraded and depleted by us very quick. What can we do against it? The things we throw away still can be used.

Solutions:
Recycle: Make out of your old products new ones!
Remanufacturing: To refurbish your products is better than manufacturing something new!
Redistribute: Reuse those products that are in a usable condition!
Maintain: With a good maintenance you can extend the life of your products!

Quiz question:
1. What do you do with a car that has broken brakes?
a) throw it away
b) recycle
c) maintain

2. What should you do with a ripped shirt?
a) remanufacure
b) throw it away
c) throw it in the ocean

Vocabulary:
depleted - aufgebraucht
degraded - degradieren (herabwürdigen)

C-Project Step 7: Communication

After the second Zoom meeting it was clear for us that we would like to do the collaboration project with Reyda, Elif and Arda from Izmir, Turkey. They agreed to help us to find participants for the survey and to plant some trees. We exchanged numbers in the Zoom meeting and created a group chat on Whatsapp. We are now in regular contact with them and have already sent them our survey. We informed them that we are going to keep them up to date and they were fine with that.

C-Project Step 5: Vision & imagination

Vision
We hope that our project and survey will show how much students from Izmir, Turkey and Wetzikon, Switzerland know about the environment. We believe that through this project we can also increase our own knowledge. Our main goal is to contribute to the environment. We also want to show the students how easy this can be. The trees that our collaboration partners and we are going to plant will illustrate exactly that.

Imagination
What if...
the whole world was full of trees. There would be no pollution and deforestation and humans would protect them. If humans would get how much worth one single tree has. Animals wouldn't have to fear loosing their living environment because of humans. Are there any negative points about it? In our imagination there aren't. All living and nonliving things would have a better live. If everything would be full of trees, everything would be better because humans are the cause for all the problems concerning environmental pollution.

C-Project Step 3: Concept of our project idea

Collaboration partners:
Team from Wetzikon (Zurich): Florian & Jasmin W.
Team from Izmir (Turkey): Arda, Reyda & Elif

Description of our project:
You can see a description in the following linked post. We already described it there. -->Project idea

Our planning steps:
Already done:
- Let our project idea approved by Mrs. E. Suter
- Do the audio visual presentation about our project
--> record the presentation
- Talk with our potential collaboration partners, if they want to do a collaboration with us
- We have sent the survey to the students in Izmir and Wetzikon and posted it in an other post
- Changed the link so it will work now hopefully

In progress:
- More research about planting trees

Our research question:
How much do students know about the environmental pollution?
What circumstances are necessary for a tree to grow big and old?
How many trees will we be able to plant?

Diverse:
We need a website or app to be able to create the survey.

Goal:
To become aware of how great the knowledge of students is about environmental pollution.  We also want to plant some trees to make our own contribution to sustainability.

C-Project Step 1: Collaboration Partners and Project idea

Project Partner: Florian Studer

How will you build a collaboration team across borders & cultures? With whom?
Our idea was to make a survey in Izmir to find out how the enviromental pollution in Turkey is and how big their knowledge about enviroment is. To compare it to Switzerland we also send the survey to students at our school.

After that we plan to do a collaboration project with students from Izmir.
Last summer in Turkey were many forest fires and because of that we want to plant some trees over there.
Our goal that we want to reach is to plant at least 10 trees in Ismir 10 trees in Wetzikon in spring.
Firstly we created a mindmap to manifest our project idea:

Our next step is to do a short audio-visual presentation.
We'll keep you updated.

Does living vegan impact the environment?

One of the most effective thing for our environment a person can do is avoiding products from animals. From farm to fork meat productions requires a lot. It starts with the water and crops (Felder wie z.B. Maisfelder) an then the transport of the meat. The amount of grain feed for meat production is a huge factor of the deforestation for exemple in Brazil.
