(Final words)
Lucky for us, we live in the same household so we could each take turns cooking. So the whole thing was not so stressful when you had to do more for school the other person could cook. We were surprised about the hidden sugar that is unfortunately in almost every product. But we had to do the week without many products that we normally need. Johanna has survived the week even if it was not always easy. Josef unfortunately became weak on the weekend, because he won a tennis tournament and then celebrated this with a Ice Cream.

Sugar Experiences
Monday:
Full of anticipation and verve, I started the week in which I want to live sugar-free. The first day went exceptionally well and I was able to try out new dishes that do not contain sugar.
Tuesday:
The second day went exceptionally well and I did not fall into old patterns, but was able to stay true to my line.
Wednesday:
Today was a normal day, I was able to give up sugar without any problems and eat other alternatives, such as fruit or sugar-free products.
Thursday:
Today was probably the hardest day, because at school we often go to the Coop and it's almost impossible to settle for just an apple then.
Friday:
In the evening we had visitors and I had to overcome myself not to try dessert. But I could do without it.
Saturday:
Slowly it goes towards the end. I am confident that I will make it. Saturday went by quickly and without sugar.
Sunday:
Finally, the Challenge is done. I am happy and try to watch my sugar consumption in the coming time.
Upadate:
We came up with one idea, to link our project and our self-experiment to the subject environment.
We will point out and describe the environmental-ethical problems of sugar consumption. Sugar is obtained from the sugar beet, which is a plant, and in order to plant a plant, various economic and environmental steps take place.
So we will determine to what extent the consumption of sugar affects the environment.
A comparison between the Swiss and the American Sugar-consumation.

Our achievement from today: 6/10
We've done our self experiment last week and it was a good experience. Now our next goal is, to link our theme with T&U.
Sadly we can't visit a sugar-factory, because of corona and the sugar beet gets harvest in September or October.

We made an Interview with Mr. Stänz about our topic. Fortunately, we were able to have lunch with him and ask our questions.
What is the difference between industrial sugar and natural sugar?
Basically, there is natural sugar in every raw material or food you harvest. However, during processing, the substances to process this sugar in the body are destroyed. For this reason, processed foods can not be well processed in the body, because he has to fall back on his reserves. When there are no more reserves, the sugar is stored. For this reason, people get fatter.
What does an optimal nutrition day look like for you?
As much natural food as possible. I personally grind my own oatmeal, because many substances are lost during processing. Nevertheless, I also produce my own chocolate when I want to eat dessert.
What are the dangers of sugar?
In the past, there were poor people who worked a lot in the sugar field and ate sugar beets all day. They had extremely white teeth. The rich people ate the processed sugar and got rotten teeth. This is again due to the substances that are lost. However, back pain, headaches and of course diabetes are also part of excessive consumption. When you try to give up sugar you also have much more energy than normal. I have done this 3 times in my life and the feeling is unbelievable. Many of people's ailments would disappear if they gave up sugar.
Referring to our self-experiment. Will we already notice changes after one week without industrial sugar?
Probably not. You would have to do the experiment for a whole month to really notice anything. However, the beginning is always the most difficult and I think that one week is already hard enough for you. Maybe you have the motivation to extend the experiment. If you can do it for a week, you can also do it for a month.
Thank you for your time!
Interviewed by Nicola & Simon
For our project we had a vision and a imagination.
Vision:
Our vision is to show the production of our finished products and food that we buy in the stores. For this we decided to make a collaboration with a group from Germany or India to show how it is done in their country and what they pay attention to. In addition, Nicola and I will do a small project where we will both completely abstain from industrially produced sugar for at least 1 week and then evaluate our results and experiences.
Imagination:
Our idea is that we can get people to educate themselves on how to control their sugar and general food consumption, as it is a very exciting and extremely important topic especially in our society.

Your Research Question (what?)
We want to find out how much sugar is consumed per day in Switzerland
and in the country of our collaboration partners.
We are also interested in how sugar is produced and transported
in our country.
How is sugar influencing our daily life?
- advantages, disavantages
- self-experiment (living without sugar)
- interview
Your Answer: Project description, methods/techniques, etc. (How?)
Self-Experiment with two people from Germany (Collaboration)
Product: A report about our self-experiment and experiences without sugar. And how sugar is produced and imported into our country.
Various, e.g. material needed, expert proposals, difficulties
- a daily diary for our experiences
- a good computer with good programs
Expert's Comment:
We are going to ask Indian doc. Dr. Med. Arno Roy and his colleague Dr. Med. Michael Inauen for their opinions.
Goals/Result
Publish an article on "don't waste my energy".
