Change usually happens at a snail's pace (im Schneckentempo) in Cuba, but new media have rapidly transformed the Caribbean island in recent years. Since Cubans gained free access to the Internet in 2018, censorship has become permeable (Zänsur wurde durchlässig). International websites - and thus also Spanish and U.S. daily newspapers in which Cuban dissidents have their say - can be easily accessed via the mobile network. Anyone who wants to obtain critical information in Cuba can do so today without major restrictions.
