Writing Interview Invitations

Interview invitation for the family groupchat (usa):

Hi everyone

I am currently working on a project for school about women in IT.
Since our class has to collaborate with people from different countries I was
wondering if any of you were up to do an interview with me.

We could either zoom together or I could send you the questions and you'd be able to send
me the audio recordings with your answers. Either way I will just use the audio to create a
little podcast to showcase my project.

xoxo

Brainstorming with my Dad

interview / recorded phone call with my Dad

We covered memories about my grandma and ideas on who to talk to about women in IT. Additionally, we covered my future career options (would I work in IT? would I even be interested? If so, what interests me? )

phone call audio: Recording_Phonecall_Sophie_Ed.mp3 (8,81 mb)

Difficult vocabulary:

a brownout
a reduction in or restriction on the availability of electrical power in a particular area - eine Stromnetzstörung

My grannie - one of the first women to code

How did women disappear from the IT industry? Most importantly how can we bring them back?

This is the main question of my thesis. When you think of the IT industry, you think of a male dominated field. But did you know that coding used to be a woman's business? Sadly, over the years the idea that computers are for men has become a narrative.

Guten Tag

Mission failed - restarting my survey

Status 27.01.2022

Out of curiosity I checked my survey answers and found out that a big amount of answers were just blank. I found out that the answers take very long to load / to send - if you close the survey before the answers are sent, it will send a blank form. I am quite dissapointed in that, because I think I have lost some great answers to that error.

Today or tomorrow, I'll send out the survey again with a disclaimer about that error and will hope for the best.

Update 28.01: The problem was fixed.

Already thinking about presentation...

Status 13.01.2022

I have decided to try my hand at making a small short film to present my project.
Today I wrote the first draft of the script - which was easier than expected.
Drehbuch Women who code - Version 1.pdf (80,61 kb)

Before I'll be sending out interview invitations I have to write some good questions for the interviews, in order to get the answers I want. After that I will be sending out the invitations. In addition I am planning to start filming some parts next week.

brain storming the idea and creating a concept

I sit down once a week by myself (since I am doing the project by myself) for half an hour and work on my project - like I did today.

I still need to figure out how I want to present the end results, my options are either a podcast or a short film.

Since I am interested in filming and video production in general (besided already having photography as a side job), I am leaning more towards the short film. Either way I need to come up with a short script and structure. I still need to get ahold of my aunt, to scedule an interview. The different time zones make it a bit difficult.

My to do's at the moment are:

  •  Decide between short film and podcast
  • Write a script
  • Scedule an interview w/aunt
  • Scedule more interviews and further planning: who do I want to also talk to?
    • Lecturers who teach computer science
    • IT specialists
    • Women in the industry
