Seaspiracy

Seaspiracy is a documentary concerning fishing's environmental impact.

The hardest part about "Seaspiracy" are the horrific and heartbreaking pictures which give a insight into reality. They show how dolphins are slaughtered in Japan, whales are hunted in Denmark, sharks have their fins cut off,... the list goes on.

In "Seaspiracy," everyone who believes that plastic, such as straws, is the greatest threat to the oceans will be proven wrong. Fishing, on the other hand, is even riskier.

For example, due to a study cited in the documentary, about 46 percent of the trash in the Pacific is discarded fishing nets. Plastic straws, on the other hand, account for only 0.03 percent of the trash. Though, overfishing causes the destruction of the habitat of countless sea creatures. The only solution that seems to make sense: never eat fish again. It seems simple, though it is actually very difficult. The Netflix film Seaspiracy asks the right questions -the answers however do not appear correct. It is not that simple to just go vegan, fish and seafoods are an important and affordable source of protein, especially in countries such as Bangladesh, Cambodia and Sri Lanka. At the same time, fishing and aquaculture secure the income of 800 million people. It's not just about not eating fish, but for example breeding with a small footprint.

Seaspiracy makers paint a terrible picture. If we continue like this, the oceans will be empty by 2048. And that entails gross consequences. Because if the oceans die, then the lives of the entire human race are also at stake.

Of course there are also a lot of people not agreeing with the movie, saying it mispresentate the fisher industry.

Nevertheless, if you agree with the film or disagree- it achieves what it is supposed to achieve. And that is to open our eyes and shake us awake. Because the fact is: we humans endanger our planet and it is urgent time to act.

To make yourself an opinion about Seaspiracy, go watch it on Netflix.
