Environment & Technology

Vision and Imagination - Vegan vs. Vegetarian

I think in the future a Vegan or Vegetarian lifestyle is going to gain in popularity even more. We can't deny the fact that the trend is increasing more and more. People are getting more mindful when it comes to our nutrition. They are paying more attention on the labels and if it is good for the environment. Since our nutrition has a big impact on the environment I think it's important that a change is made. Companies should improve the way their food is produced. And I think that is what's going to happen in the near future.

Visualisation and Imagination

My Vision:

I think sustainable tourism will be more and more important in the future. We have to take care of our environment, otherwise travelling is no longer possible.

The current problem lies in the higher prices. The hotels that are sustainable are usually associated with higher prices. This discourages tourists, as the need is usually for the lowest possible prices.

Imagination:

I can imagine that the trend of sustainable travel can be spread through influencers and social media to attract more customers.

Research:

The interview with Kallaya also revealed that the demand is definitely there, however, I think with the evaluations a relatively positive result can be understood. Nevertheless, the corona virus has some aspects to it, which could have productive or negative consequences. in my opinion, however, I think that this could develop well.

Step 1 - Vision & Imagination

Before the experience of the heart project

Through the topic "log cabins", people are encouraged to think. The results of the survey will be very varied, as everyone has their own idea of what a home should be.

But this makes it exciting and we can let the different views be reflected and then think about which aspect we find best.

The contact with Canada brings us closer to the people who invented this "project" of log cabins and are already living it.

We can also learn more about the construction, as we have a contact in Switzerland. It is a company that builds such log cabins here in Switzerland.

vision and imagination

I hope that I can show with this project if it would be economically and ecologically beneficial to switch to an electric car.
The many repair costs, road taxes, service intervals and the high gasoline prices make driving an expensive "fun". I think with an electric car you will be noticeably cheaper on the road today even though the purchase price is high.
But I can't say if the electric car is really more ecological. I think it is extremely depending on the duration of use and the place where you use it (in which country).

Team from Switzerland: Family Friend from Joel's family

(2) Diverse, e.g. material needed, expert proposals, difficulties:

(3) Expert's comment:

No expert in the project

(4) Goal/Result:

Me and mario thought about the vacation which partners can answer our questions best and with which we can best come to the conclusion of our main statement. We knew that cars have an impact on the environment. But we kept asking ourselves what impact the different types of cars really have on the environment. We found the comparison between electric cars and old timers very interesting. It is always said that old timers have a worse impact on the climate than the "normal cars." Through the experience with old timers of our partners we learn what exactly makes an old timer and also more about the functioning of the different types of gasoline. We also learn that electric cars are only environmentally friendly to a certain extent.

Task 11 - Which is more sustainable Plastic bottles or glass bottles?

The comparison between plastic and glass bottles

Plastic bottles have the edge in transport thanks to their lighter weight. However, glass bottles can be refilled more often than plastic bottles. So both are in a neck-and-neck race here. Green glass bottles are particularly environmentally friendly because they consist of up to 90 per cent recycled material. With white glass, the figure is only 60 per cent. The PET bottle comes off worst in terms of recycling, with 30 per cent recycled per bottle. However, there is still eco-potential here: the recycling share could be increased to up to 50 per cent.

The stumbling block in the eco-balance of the glass bottle is its production: the energy required to melt glass is very high, but the bottle can be reused up to fifty times. The PET bottle requires less energy to produce, but can only be refilled 25 times.

By the way: If a bottle breaks, it should still be returned. The material can still be recycled.

In the end, the difference between glass and plastic is hardly worth mentioning! The important thing is: the main thing is reusable!
