overpopulation

Problems of overpopulation:

https://de.thpanorama.com/blog/cultura-general/sobrepoblacin-causas-consecuencias-y-posibles-soluciones.html (overpopulation)

1. To survive, people need food and drink. In addition to dry throats, many stomachs are growling. The pressure on food supplies is growing. More than 800 million people in the world go hungry - two billion suffer from malnutrition. More at World Hunger.

2. If a person grows up in an environment where medical care, hygiene and food supply are inadequate, they are more susceptible to diseases. These can also spread more quickly there. As today's situation also shows with Corona.

3. People travel from A to B - whether just to work or halfway around the world on vacation. With each additional person, more cars, scooters and other high-emission vehicles are produced and driven. More under air pollution.

Food Waste

Food wastage is a growing global crisis that is affecting the physical health of the earth and the population inhabiting the entire planet. Recent estimates postulate that  food wasted  in developed countries; like Europe and the United States  can feed the whole continent in more than three times.

Food wastage is a serious environmental concern facing the whole continent.  To determine the way out of this disaster is not easy. There is a need for sacrifice and co-operation from various agencies to address this issue. This paper focuses on food wastage by discussing how food is wasted and how it can be avoided.

Food waste is defined as the food loss during retail and final consumption. Food wastes only refer to foods for human consumption. It also includes food for human consumption, which went out of the human food chain. These are the foods thrown away even if they are still fit for human consumption. Statistics show that one third of the total food produced is being wasted from the production up to consumption.

Task 14 - Natural hazards

Classification of natural hazards
Natural hazards include all processes and impacts of nature that can be harmful to humans and property. Based on their cause, natural hazards are divided into three different groups:

  • Hydrological / meteorological natural hazards
  • Floods: inundation, bank erosion, overbank debris flow
  • severe weather: thunderstorm, hailstorm, winter storm
  • Avalanche (snow and ice avalanche)
  • Cyclones
  • Tsunami
  • Cold spell
  • Drought / heat
  • Forest fire

Geological natural hazards
Mass movements: Landslide, rock / boulder fall, rock fall, landslide.
Earthquake
Volcanism

Thunderstorms in Switzerland
The most frequent thunderstorms are heat thunderstorms. Frontal thunderstorms are less frequent and less violent.

In Switzerland, heat thunderstorms occur regularly during the hot summer months. The steep topography of the country favors localized heating, followed by an ascent of moist air masses that can form tower-like thunderclouds that rise to high altitudes. The strong updrafts and downdrafts generate electrical voltages that discharge and produce lightning.

Lightning strikes often start fires that can set buildings and forests ablaze. They can also cause severe damage to computers, televisions, telephone systems and other equipment because electronic components are not well suited to withstand power surges. For example, circuit boards or cables melt due to overheating. Every year, lightning kills about a thousand people worldwide - either from the lightning strike itself, from electrocution, or from burns.

Pesticides

A pesticide is any substance used to kill, repel, or control certain forms of plant or animal life that are considered to be pests. Pesticides include herbicides for destroying weeds and other unwanted vegetation, insecticides for controlling a wide variety of insects, fungicides used to prevent the growth of molds and mildew, disinfectants for preventing the spread of bacteria, and compounds used to control mice and rats. Because of the widespread use of agricultural chemicals in food production, people are exposed to low levels of pesticide residues through their diets. Scientists do not yet have a clear understanding of the health effects of these pesticide residues. The Agricultural Health Study, an ongoing study of pesticide exposures in farm families, also posts results online. Other evidence suggests that children are particularly susceptible to adverse effects from exposure to pesticides, including neurodevelopmental effects. People may also be exposed to pesticides used in a variety of settings including homes, schools, hospitals, and workplaces.

Forests – why are they so important for us?

https://www.sabzproperty.com/blog/article/304/why-forests-are-important-for-our-climate(why forests are important for our climate?)

1.Trees provide the air we breathe. For the tree, the air is primarily a waste product that it produces during photosynthesis. For us, it is vital! The tree also needs oxygen. But never as much as it produces itself.

2.Forests remove carbon from the atmosphere. Through storage, for example, weather, rain and water cycles are regulated. Tropical rainforests are particularly effective carbon eaters. Deforestation of the same leads to the creation of a vicious circle: Loss of forest area causes more carbon to enter the atmosphere.

What is SpaceX

What is SpaceX

English:

SpaceX was founded in 2002 by Elon Musk with the goal of reducing space transportation costs to enable the colonization of Mars. SpaceX manufactures the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launch vehicles, several rocket engines, Dragon cargo, crew spacecraft and Starlink communications satellites.

How does the meat industry affect the environment?

Meat production requires too much arable land. No other consumer good in the world requires as much land as the production of meat and dairy products.Two-thirds of it is pasture, one-third is needed to grow feed for the animals, which could be better used to grow crops and grains for direct human consumption. Another big problem is that animals, especially cattle, produce a lot of methane, which has a much stronger greenhouse gas effect than CO2.

So what can we do?

Eat less meat and focus more on organic products. Sustainability is the key!

Brazil to promise end to illegal Amazon deforestation by 2028

Brazil - Deforestation

Shortly before the start of the UN Climate Change Conference COP26, Brazil's internationally pressured government has promised measures to preserve the Amazon.

According to Vice President Hamilton Mourão, the Brazilian delegation will announce at the COP that it will end illegal deforestation of the Amazon rainforest by 2027 or 2028. President Jair Bolsonaro had still mentioned 2030 as a target at US President Joe Biden's climate summit in April. "I think a more ambitious target would be very welcome by the international community," Mourão said at a press conference on Monday (local time).

Food

What we eat has a big impact on our environment. So I think it`s ery important to care about our diet. I think we should start by informing ourselves about the food we eat and what impact it has on our environment. Often times there are alternatives that are eco friendly. For example start buying regional meat instead of meat from another continent. Whats also important is to not waste food and only buy as much as you need.

Everyone can do their own part to save the world.
